How to Transfer .ES Domains from Another Provider
Transferring a domain name from one hosting provider to another works the same way for all providers. The requirements for transferring a .ES domain are the same as for other domain names, except you do not need to request the “Auth-Code” for the .ES extension.
Starting the Transfer
Go to your new hosting provider and provide the .ES domain name you want to transfer so that the required space can be allocated.
In the case of Sered, log into your Client Area and click BUY SERVICES.
In the dropdown menu DOMAINS, select TRANSFER DOMAINS.
Completing the Transfer in Sered
A form will appear requesting the necessary details such as the domain name and EPP code.
Fill in the information and click ADD TO CART.
Once the order is completed (cost €0), the transfer process will begin.
Note: This process applies to all domains.
The registry ESNIC will send an email to the domain owner requesting confirmation of the transfer. The Administrative Contact (PCA) must approve it within 5 days. If they do not, the transfer request must be submitted again.
Requirements & Common Errors for .ES Domain Transfers
Before starting the transfer:
Ensure the Administrative Contact (PCA) email address is accessible, as you’ll need to click the confirmation link sent.
Make sure the domain is not expired.
Enter the correct domain extension.
The transfer of a .ES domain has no cost (€0).
The renewal date will remain unchanged.
How to Transfer .COM, .ORG, .NET, .INFO, etc. (except .ES)
Requirements:
The domain must be unlocked for transfer.
The domain must not be expired.
You must have the Auth/EPP code.
The domain must be at least 60 days old since registration.
If these conditions are not met, the transfer cannot proceed. These requirements are generally the same across domain providers.
Your provider will request the Auth code when placing the order. The transfer fee will extend the domain’s expiry date by 1 year. After payment, you’ll receive an email confirming the start of the transfer.
How Long Does a Domain Transfer Take?
Standard domain transfers: up to 5 days from initiation, with no interruption to service.
.ES domain transfers: around 2 hours after confirming the transfer email.
Your provider will notify you once the domain is active in your client area. You may receive an email with TRANSFER COMPLETE, but the domain may transfer before the email arrives.
Common Domain Transfer Mistakes
Not requesting the transfer early enough — allow at least 7 days for completion.
Using an incorrect transfer/authentication code.
Attempting to transfer a domain that is locked.
Preparing Your Website Before a Domain Transfer
Back up all website data:
Website content & databases: Create a complete backup and store it on another computer or portable drive before moving data to your new hosting provider.
Importing the database: This can be done after registering the domain and activating hosting with the new provider.
Email accounts:
Email accounts linked to the domain will be transferred, but the mailbox contents may not move automatically. You can migrate them manually or use your host’s email forwarding service.
Reasons to Change Domain Providers
Poor price-to-quality ratio.
Slow server performance due to overloaded infrastructure.
Frequent downtime.
Limited technical support channels (email, phone, ticket, chat).
Lack of trust or security from the current provider.
Current provider does not meet your website requirements.
You want to consolidate all domains under a single provider.
If you’ve decided to transfer your domain to a new provider, it’s important to know the requirements and steps to ensure a smooth process.
