Do you want to create a subdomain for your website? Do you need to have a subdomain for your web project?
In this guide, we will show you how to create a subdomain easily and in just a few seconds, simply by entering the Sered cPanel control panel.
If you want to create a subdomain for your website, the first thing you need to do is choose a name for the subdomain. The name should be consistent with the content you will publish on the subdomain and should be easy for users to remember.
What is a Subdomain?
A subdomain is an extension of a main domain that is used to create a separate section within a website. Subdomains are placed before the main domain and are separated from it with a dot. For example, if the main domain is “example.com”, a subdomain could be “news.example.com”.
Subdomains are used to better organize a website and allow separating different sections or functionalities of the same site into different subdomains. This can help users find what they are looking for more easily and help search engines better index the content of the site.
A subdomain is a third-level domain, which can have different uses. This subdomain will be generated in a subfolder of your web server. This means a new directory is created and it becomes a third-level domain.
EXAMPLE: If you have created a subdomain and the URL address is http://support.yourdomain.com:
.COM: is the top-level domain.
yourdomain: is the second level.
Support: is the third-level domain.
Why Would You Need to Create a Subdomain?
There are several reasons why you might need to create a subdomain for your website. Some possible reasons are:
To better organize a website and separate different functionalities into different subdomains.
To create a more personalized user experience, such as offering users a version of the website in their own language or location.
To improve the performance and scalability of the website, dividing traffic into different servers according to the subdomain.
To optimize the website’s SEO, since search engines may consider subdomains as more relevant content than the content of the main domain.
What is the Difference Between Subdomains and Addon Domains?
An addon domain is used to add a completely new domain to your hosting server. In contrast, a subdomain uses an already existing domain to create a subdirectory using the same domain.
The main difference between subdomains and addon domains is that subdomains are part of the same main domain. For example, if the main domain is “example.com”, a subdomain could be “news.example.com”.
On the other hand, addon domains are completely different domains and are not related to the main domain. For example, if the main domain is “example.com”, an addon domain could be “examplenews.com”.
In summary, subdomains are extensions of the main domain, while addon domains are completely different domains.
What are the Advantages of Using Subdomains?
The advantages of having subdomains on a website are:
They allow better organization of a website and the separation of different sections or functionalities into different subdomains.
They help users more easily find what they are looking for and help search engines better index the content of the site.
They can be used to create a more personalized user experience or to direct users to a version of the website specific to their region or language.
They can help divide the site’s traffic into different servers, which can improve the performance and scalability of the website.
What are the Disadvantages of Using Subdomains?
One of the main disadvantages of using subdomains is that they can make website management more difficult.
If too many subdomains are used, it may be difficult to maintain a consistent content structure and avoid duplicate content.
In addition, the configuration and management of subdomains may require greater technical effort and may be more costly than just one main domain.
It is also important to note that subdomains are usually not as effective as main domains in terms of SEO, as search engines may consider subdomains as less relevant content than the content of the main domain.
Finally, subdomains can create confusion among users if they are not used consistently and coherently.
