How to create a staging from Installatron?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

When you make changes or modifications to your website there is a risk that those changes may negatively affect your site, but you can avoid them by using the staging function from Installatron.

If you have never heard of this term, in this tutorial you will learn how it can help you so that your website does not run any risk simply by creating a staging environment.

What is a staging website?

A Staging website is known as a test or development site that allows you to make any type of modifications before publishing a change. That is, it works as a tool where you can experiment without the risk of breaking something.

Staging means “setting the stage” or “staging,” it comes from the English word stage. This means that it works as an independent copy of your site so that you can rehearse through trial and error.

A staging can be created from a new blank website or by creating an exact copy of an existing site.

What is the Installatron staging site for?

Installatron is a very popular and easy-to-use cPanel tool, which allows access to more than 130 web applications, among them staging, which is useful for creating an exact copy of your website on a different domain or subdomain and making the changes you want, for example:

✅ Installing a plugin that may cause some damage to the site.

✅ Changing the WordPress template or theme.

✅ Creating new sections of your website.

✅ Adding code for other functions.

✅ Changing or updating the PHP version of WordPress.

Best of all, when you make a change and it turns out as you expected, you don’t have to do it again on the real page, but you can synchronize the staging with your website so it will be replicated on the page automatically.

How to create a staging site in Installatron?

Here we show you a guide to create a staging site using Installatron from Sered.net:

Access the Sered client area

First you must go to the Sered Client Area with the username and password you used to register on the website.

Once inside, you must go to the cPanel control panel, for this you must click on “ENTRAR A CPANEL” as shown in the image.

Go to the Domains section

Then you must search for and click on the “DOMINIOS” section.

cpanel serednet domains

dominios cpanel serednet

Domain Management Panel

Next a new domain manager panel will open, on the right side there is a blue button that says “CREAR UN DOMINIO” which you must click.

Create a subdomain from cPanel

Then you will enter a new window that says “DOMINIOS,” there you must add a subdomain name which can be anything but it is recommended a descriptive name or one related to the project.

When filling in the “SUBDOMINIO” field the root directory will be completed automatically, at the end click “ENVIAR” so that the changes are saved.

The DNS may interfere with whether a subdomain can be used to create a staging site, for example if the domain has CloudFlare DNS the configuration must be edited by adding the entry.

Find the “Software” section in cPanel

Then go to the “SOFTWARE” section where the “INSTALLATRON APPLICATIONS INSTALLER” tool is located.

Installatron allows you to import a complete website to Sered, simply by giving the FTP data of your old hosting provider.

Clone from Installatron

Once inside Installatron and the subdomain created you must go to “APLICACIONES,” search and select the website you want to clone and click the “CLONAR” icon as shown in the image.

Create a Staging site

Select the subdomain you created in step 5 by expanding the list where it says “DOMINIO,” then choose that you want to create a Staging site as indicated by the arrow, the other settings are optional and you can leave them as they are.

The “RUTA” option must remain blank since the cloned site can be installed in the subdirectory of the subdomain.

You must click the “CLONAR” button which is at the bottom right corner, thus you will have your cloned site in the new subdomain. All the settings of the real website are the same as those found in the cloned site.

Create a Sync from Installatron

Now that you have a staging site you can synchronize any change or modification so that they are published on your live website, you just have to click on the “SYNC” button in Installatron.

Conclusion

Staging is a great option if you want to avoid risks on your website when making changes or modifications, or if you want to test plugins that may cause some problem on your site. In addition it is an easy process to do with the Installatron tool which also synchronizes the changes on the real site without major setbacks.
