Next, we explain each of these options and how to download or restore the data in each case.

How to merge the data of the real account with those of the backup in JetBackup 5?

The “Restore Options” section refers to whether you want to merge the backup data with the current files that are hosted. It will merge the backup data with the existing data in your account. The real data has priority over the restore data. By default, it is disabled.

With this, you can proceed to click on the “Restore Selected items” button, after selecting the desired option. It will confirm that the corresponding task has been added and will take you to the “Queue” section to view the status of the task. The completion time of the task will depend on the size of the backup.

How to perform the restoration of additional domains or subdomains?

As you know, your main website will always be located in the public_html folder. However, there are times when an additional domain or subdomains are added, these will be contained in independent folders and outside of public_html. Its new location will be in the root of the file manager named with the corresponding domain/subdomain name.

The restoration process would be in the same way that we have explained above. You must locate the restore date in the Jetbackup 5 list, select the additional domain folder and select it, then click the “Select files” button and “Restore selected items”.

With this, you can restore the additional domains and subdomains in the same way. Remember that Jetbackup 5 generates backups of absolutely everything you have in your hosting plan.

What to do to restore a complete copy of files and databases of our website?

If you want to completely restore a WordPress, PrestaShop, Moodle or Joomla website, you need to divide it into two stages:

  1. You must start with the restoration of the public_html directory. In the case of WordPress or the directory where the entire content management system (CMS) is included.

  2. You need to restore the database (DB). This step is recommended to perform after the previous one. Later, we explain how you are going to restore the database of your website.

Cron Job Backups

Cron Job Backups is managed similarly to the previous restore or download option. Its only difference is that Cron tasks will be used.

Cron tasks are those that allow using commands in cPanel in an automated way for the execution of command sequences at certain times and at specific intervals. For example, you can schedule the task of deleting your website’s temporary files weekly, in addition to adding a specific time. Its main objective is to free up server space.

DNS Zone Backups

This option is used almost similar to the previous one for restoration or download. However, it uses the zones of the DNS records configured for your domain.

You will discover that there are several types of DNS entries such as: A type entries, CNAME, MX and TXT.

The backups of these entries are of great importance in the event of any erroneous change of any of them. You can restore them to return them to their previous state, using the backups.

Database Backups

All dynamic data and information related to your website such as articles, themes, plugins, images, etc… are stored in tables that make up the database. It can be said that it is the most important backup of your website’s information.

By restoring the database you can recover deleted articles, revert to the previous version of a plugin, restore the previous version of the CMS, etc…

When you access the Database Backups, you will find the previously made database backups.

In addition, you can restore the current and working database without having to download that file by clicking on “Restore”. In the same way as we explained above when restoring the “Public_html” folder. However, this implies that by doing so, all content data in the database in use will be overwritten.

NOTE: You have several database backups. So you must be careful to know which one you select when restoring it.

How to know the name of the database you want to restore and how many exist?

It is not difficult to know the name of your CMS database when you edit the configuration file, the name of the database is found.

Next, we present some practical examples:

  • For WordPress, open the wp-config.php file located at the root of the CMS. You can do this using any known text editor. In “wp-config.php”, there is a field called “define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘xxxxxx_xxxxxx’)”. This field shows the name of your database.

  • In Joomla, you have to edit the php file located at the root of the CMS. There, there is a field designated as public $db = ‘xxxxxx_xxxxxx’. In this field it shows the name of the database.

  • For the case of PrestaShop 1.7, you have to edit the /app/config/parameters.php file located at the root of the CMS. There is a field designated as ‘database_name’ => ‘xxxxxx_xxxxxx’, in which the name of the database is shown.

  • In the case of PrestaShop 1.6 you must edit the /config/settings_inc.php file existing at the root of your CMS. There is a field called define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘xxxxxx_xxxxxx’). In it is written the name of the database.

  • In Moodle, you must edit the /config/settings_inc.php file existing in the root directory of the CMS. Find a field called $CFG->dbname = ‘xxxxxx_xxxxxx’. In this same, the name of the database is found.

Based on the above, and once you are clear about the name of your database, we continue with the restoration or download.

Email Accounts

With this option, you can restore the emails that have been stored when the backup was executed at a certain time. You can recover through restoration, any email that you have accidentally deleted.

Here, you can recreate a specific email account again. However, they may not be the emails that have been stored in the account. So to restore the emails of a certain account you have to perform the following steps:

  • Go to your dashboard and click on “Email Accounts”.

  • Once there, in the list of accounts, select the account to restore.

  • Click on the “Choose other backup” button, whenever you want to restore another date as shown in the image in numeral 2.

  • Click on the “Restore” button, confirm the selection in the pop-up window and the task will be added to the restorations queue.

Full Accounts Backups

You can use this option to download full backups of your account. You can download files, folders, emails, databases, DNS zones, etc…

It is only justified to download backups in the case of needing to save a copy in a secure storage site.

With this option it is not possible to restore the account by oneself. As we mentioned earlier, the utility is limited to the recovery of your website in case of an incident.

How to download the full backup of an account?

If you are going to download the full account from a specific date, you will have to perform the following steps:

  1. To begin, in the dashboard select the “Full backups” option. Afterwards, it will redirect to a list of available copies, where you must choose the date of the copy you want to download to your computer.

  2. Once you select the date, click on the “Generate Download” option.

  3. Next, accept the new pop-up window of the task, which will redirect to the “Queue” to check the current status of the task processing and once finished, you will find a link called “Download/Restore”.
